Tale 48- The Lucky Bracelet

The two girls arrived in a town, finding a family all playing together near a fountain in the town square. Staring at them for a moment, the family noticed the two girls and gave them a smile, Sarafelle approaching and the Traveler nervously following behind. “Good morning!” the mother spoke, Sarafelle giving a playful curtsy and the couple’s daughter attempting a shaky one in response. The Traveler sat on the edge of the fountain, the child approaching her and doing another curtsy, a much better one. As music began to play from street performers, the child began to dance, Sarafelle giggling and copying her. Then, she pulled the Traveler in, the cloaked girl being taken by surprise as Sara took her hands. She remembered dancing as a child, but she was a bit clumsy on her feet, Sara taking it slower and teaching her the steps. Soon, all three of them were dancing together, the Traveler going a bit red but enjoying the music. Sarafelle then took her hands, spinning her around and almost causing her hood to fly off, laughing joyously. Even the Traveler managed a few good-natured giggles as she held onto Sara’s soft hands. As they twirled and spun, the Traveler found herself moving naturally, her eyes meeting Sara’s…they were so sparkly in the light. As the music finished, the child turned to the two girls as they sat on the edge of the fountain, all of them laughing a little. “Ooh, mama! Can you tell them the story about the special bracelet?” she asked, the Traveler looking up. She’d forgotten all about that for a moment, simply because she was having fun with Sarafelle. Was that…okay? She was unsure, but one thing was certain- she enjoyed being in the presence of the other girl, she was much like a sunbeam among clouds. The mother smiled, and prepared to tell the tale of ‘the Lucky Bracelet’.

‘Once, there was a young man who discovered a magical bracelet, purchasing it from a witch who lived in the forest. It was covered in the rarest gemstones and made with the dust of the brightest stars, and the witch had blessed it with good fortunes. This meant that the young man, who was living amid a war, was capable of evading any foe or adversity he came across, being the only survivor of one of the worst attacks on his home. Due to the bracelet’s fortune, he wanted to keep it out of malicious hands, and after many years decided to begin a tradition of passing it down to the eldest child of his family, in hopes that it would grant them luck and good fortune for all time. This tradition continued for generations and generations, granting the wearers the most amazing blessings, such as being able to meet royalty and gain wealth. And now, it remains somewhere secret in the world, though it could be closer than you think…’

The Traveler wrote the story down, Sarafelle and the child both peeking over her shoulder. She went a little pink- this was different, but not unwelcome. Sarafelle smiled at the child. “What would you want if you had a bracelet like that?” she asked, the child grinning. “I’d use it to go exploring! Then nothing bad would happen!” the kid replied, Sarafelle smiling. “What about you, miss?” the child replied, Sarafelle thinking for a moment. “Hmm…I’d use it to help keep those I love safe.” she answered, before gently nudging the Traveler. “What would you do?” she asked, the Traveler shrugging. “Probably be able to evade that knight easier…” she mumbled, Sarafelle not quite catching it but giving a gentle smile nonetheless. “Well, we’ll be off then. Thank you for the story and dance!” Sarafelle grinned, helping the Traveler to her feet since she finished writing and the two walking off together.
