Tale 57- The Dream Seer

The two had been walking for a few days, finding themselves in a new town where the Traveler accidentally tripped over a broom left on the road. Stumbling, she picked it up as a young girl came running, apologizing profusely and taking the broom from her, Sarafelle gently reassuring her as the Traveler was unharmed. The little girl smiled, before sweeping at the dust on the road, Sarafelle beginning to converse with her as she worked, and offering to help. Soon, all three of them were cleaning together, the girl offering to tell them something she read about to pass the time. Enthusiastic, Sarafelle agreed, the Traveler deciding to memorize the story and write it later. The girl smiled and told the story of ‘the Dream Seer.’

‘Once upon a time, there was a beautiful young woman with hair in ringlets and a dress that glistened with gems. A scientist and magician, she had the ability to see inside people’s heads, and more specifically their dreams. Typically, she would interpret the dreams and align them with the stars, able to chart people’s most subconscious thoughts and feelings through the imagery hidden in their minds. One fateful day, she met a young man who was in severe pain. Allowing him to rest in her workshop, she began to study his dreams. Discovering she could see a dark nightmare torturing him, she began to help him open up, both revealing secrets until the two were extremely close. They made a promise never to forget each other, and though the dream scientist wanders and cures others, she and the man meet up every now and again to ensure they are doing well.’

The girl stared up at the sky as rain began to fall, before a crack of thunder startled them all. The Traveler jumped slightly, Sarafelle asking the little girl if there was an inn nearby, but she shook her head. She offered to house them in her home, explaining her parents wouldn’t mind, but that they’d have to share a room. Sarafelle looked to the Traveler, who nodded- this might help with good contact. Gently taking Sara’s hand, the two walked toward the house, being set up and even borrowing nightdresses from the kind family. Having been cooked a meal, the two retreated to their room, Sarafelle drawing the curtains and jumping slightly as a crack of thunder shook the room. She turned to see the Traveler hiding under her hood slightly, having put her cloak over the nightgown, and gave a reassuring smile. Another crack of thunder, the Traveler shook, Sarafelle realizing she was afraid of all the noise. Sarafelle gently wrapped the blankets around both of them, before the Traveler voluntarily leaned into her, Sara tenderly putting an arm around her. Lying down, the two cuddled together, Sarafelle being slightly surprised but understanding the Traveler was afraid. Sara’s hands were warm as usual, and she gently began humming a tune, the same song the Traveler had remembered from her mother. Quietly, they sung together, the Traveler feeling herself relax in Sara’s arms and eventually putting her own cold hands around Sara, the two falling asleep as one.
